Hue House. New Beginnings in Bellevue Hill.

A house that ’ticked all the boxes’ for our clients, yet suffered from a case of ‘personality minus’. Our directive was to reinvigorate the house through targeted intervention; focusing upon joinery items, a new fireplace and staircase, as well as soft furnishing inclusive of Art curation, architectural and decorative lighting, customised rugs, custom furniture pieces and window furnishing. We also connected the living spaces to the garden, designing the hardscape in collaboration with Myles Baldwin who designed the planting.

We emphasised the bold double-height volume above the kitchen, stripping back the ‘bridge’ which connected the first floor bedrooms overhead and transforming the staircase into a sculptural centre piece. To the raw concrete structure we added a delicate balustrade. Creating opportunity for an open gallery - Art viewed from both levels. An interesting dialogue between the raw ‘grey’ elements of the building and delicate golden lines and hues.

Commissioning a custom collection of 'Surveillance' aged brass pendants from Lost Profile added a touch of elegance and created visual interest within the void. Carefully curated at varying heights, these pendants illuminated the space while contributing to its overall scale.

We needed to seamlessly weave various existing items which our clients had brought home from their time living in New York into the curation of the home. It was important that there was not one overpowering genre or style, rather that new and old could sit comfortably together, alongside new material elements and the ‘bones’ of the house, expansive grey limestone. The decorative elements needed to create a sense of warmth and comfort that expands outdoors.
